Earthbound - Kiruna Mine 2121

An establishing shot that highlights the state of the world in 2121. The solar energy wars resulted in the sky being burned and as a result the sun hardly reached the earth. All vegetation is gone and the city of Kiruna has become a huge coal-mine with people living inside the earth.

The vision for the shot was to reveal the Brutalist city as a harsh incision into the landscape, a river of concrete megastructures disappearing into the horizon. In the background, ‘The Ark’ (a giant spaceship that is to take the majority of the population to another planet) is accompanied by a series of generators that power the huge vessel.
